Greater Manchester’s £3.8 billion PFI Contract Signed at Last!

Serious worries about the UK’s ability to let the series of local authority PFI integrated waste management contracts which are essential to provide the much higher recycling and waste diversion away from landfill required by the EU, have been eased. In the past week the signing of the biggest of them all has taken place after more than a year’s delay, for the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority. This has been achieved, however, only by the UK Treasury stepping in with additional financial assistance…
