2. How to Tip a Landfill

From recent discussions with an engineer who is about to design his very first landfill, a new landfill in the tropical forest for his burgeoning town’s population, but has no experience of a landfill at all, because none-exist in his state at all yet, made the Waster realize one fact.

That fact is that there there is very little basic information available both on the internet, or even published in books currently in print, on the very practical aspects of how you build a landfill day by day, and operate a landfill in what I call a “good neighbourly” manner.

That is why I wrote the ebook below, which includes early guidance on landfill operation which despite its age, still stands up well to the test of time. These are simple actions that site operators apply (and more!) throughout developed nations, but which also need to be consistently adopted by developing communities, and by so doing will substantially reduce the negative impacts of landfills.

4. An Introduction to Landfill Settlement – Not FREE! (reason given below)

Landfill settlement is an important matter when to make a case for planning authority permission to lift the whole site by a 10 to 15% waste surcharge height can generate about that proportion of the total site void space in additional void!

What really makes company and community run landfill managers take a very keen interest in this subject is also that this capacity comes without additional development costs.

No wonder then that many landfill operating organisations are seeking very high quality and authoritative modelling assessments of settlement so that they can gain approval for the maximum waste surcharge levels when the last bulker delivers the last load.

It is a fact that modern landfills which are brought up to full height fast will settle rapidly a first, and if surcharging is not applied the operator will find that the top of the landfill has dropped significantly below planning permission levels within 2 to 3 years of restoration.

That is a wasted opportunity and simply leaving possible void space revenue lying around unclaimed!

This eBook will not tell you how to calculate settlement. That is far too complex a subject to cover in a short ebook. However, once you have read this ebook you will be able to understand the complex interaction of physical and biochemical interactions which cause settlement, and you will then be able to understand settlement issues and discuss the possible appointment of a landfill engineer expert specialist with the expert on his own terms.
